The summer/winter index (or S/W index) is based on the ratio between summer and winter performance and is an effective tool to evaluate the negative impact of heat stress on dairy cows and the effectiveness of cooling systems.
In this study conducted by Alessia Tondo, Dario Pasetti and Israel Flamenbaum, the S:W ratio was calculated for the year 2020 on 2,400 Friesian cow farms located in Lombardy, with a particular focus on a group of 99 farms that have joined our #ElementsProgram.
The analysis of the collected data showed that although some results are immediate, the effect of cooling is more effective when practised for more than one year.
